Aged Care Reform Updates

You may have heard that the Aged Care Bill 2024 was recently introduced to Parliament, and you may have some questions about what it means for you. At Care Connect we are committed to providing you with up-to-date information as the aged care system undergoes significant change.

“We congratulate both the Government and opposition for working together to bring to life the significant reforms highlighted by the Royal Commission. This is the start of the journey, and Care Connect is committed to working with both the Government, clients and the community as a whole to improve the quality, care and outcomes for clients.” Lynda Chalmers, CEO Care Connect

A new program, called Support at Home, will bring together the Commonwealth Home Support Programme and the Home Care Package program. This transition will happen in stages. From 1 July 2025, the existing Home Care Packages program will be replaced by Support at Home. The Commonwealth Home Support Programme will transition later, no earlier than 1 July 2027.

Rest assured, if you have a Home Care Package, or have been approved for one, nothing will change for you.  If you’re on the wait list, you will not have to be re-assessed.

Over the coming months we will provide you with detailed information about any changes as details become available.

In addition, the Australian Government has created an online engagement hub to provide a range of information and an opportunity to have your say here. You can also call their consultation line on: 1800 318 209.

We will update this page regularly to provide you with detailed information about the changes, links to further information and FAQs.

You can find further details about the changes here.
