Introducing Marlene, one of our valued clients living independently in Western Sydney through the support of Care Connect. ‘I first became a client when my husband, Terry – who I loved dearly – passed away, and I had a lot of problems” she says. ‘I needed someone to help me at home, so I contacted Care Connect and they have been looking after me ever since… for more than 6 years now.”
Marlene is no stranger to caring. She raised two daughters and a son, then helped raise her five grandchildren. Retaining independence now, is important to Marlene, as it makes it possible for her to spend time with her family, who she cherishes.
Marlene also looked after her neighbour’s children for a while, so that neighbour could train as a police officer. Including her own, she helped nurture 12 children – all while she also worked. Now it’s Marlene’s turn to be cared for.
Crosswords and puzzles are Marlene’s favourite pastimes. She also loves crocheting and ceramics. Although she gave a lot away, she still has some of the folk art and ceramics she loved making. One of those fond reminders is a beautifully colourful and detailed salad bowl that won second prize in
the Central Coast Ceramic Show.
Last year, Marlene took up a Home Care Package with Care Connect, which funds all the supports she needs to live well. “No matter what I ask, they help me,” she says of the team at Care Connect. “I also have several carers and support workers who help by cleaning my house, taking me to appointments and taking me to do the shopping. They are all really good.”
“Sophie’s great,” says Marlene of her Care Manager. “If I need anything, she helps me. She’s very prompt and I don’t have to worry about it, so I get what I need. She’s very, very good, and I appreciate what she does. There’s no other Care Manager that has done for me what Sophie has. I’m very happy with her.”
“I would definitely recommend Care Connect,” says Marlene. “They look after me and help me with the things I need so I can stay at home and be independent.”
